I know I'm repeating everyone else, but as long as you're okay, that's the main thing. The rest is just metal.

But don't be brave and say "oh, I've got a bit of whiplash but it'll pass, I won't bother to claim." That's a mug's game! The whiplash from my M42 accident was still giving me grief on and off several years later. If I'd known that beforehand, I'd have held out for more than the couple of grand that they offered first time around. Also, don't take this to an ordinary solicitor (I let our usual works one sort it out) as they don't know what they're doing, and they're not really interested in getting the best settlement. Go for a specialist ambulance-chasing rottweiller and let them loose on the insurance companies.

Just don't think you're doing anyone any favours by not claiming. If you don't, then you're just subsidising everyone else's claims with your own premiums. Don't pretend that your injuries are any worse than they are, but make sure you get paid out at the going rate for what's actually happened. You can use the money to buy a better car, go on holiday, or even cover your insurance premiums for a short while, which are sky high thanks to the huge numbers of people who feign injury at the slightest bump.

And I know it's too late now, but with hindsight there's no way I'd go to A&E with whiplash. I was in a fair amount of pain and was hoping for some half-decent pain killers. Instead, I got treated like a total timewaster, left for four hours, then seen for approximately 30 seconds and told to take paracetamol. So in future, I'll be going to a private hospital to be assessed (the following day if necessary) and charging the bill to the insurance company.
