I think you are 100% right....only two real options left for the left-out-of-pocket customers....settle themselves/via the insurance or claim back via the legal route....not a lot of options at the moment really....
Personally, I don't think we will get much from VOSA - I will predict a response along the lines of...."although we have reviewed a number of cases (they have declined to do reports on ANY cars themselves!), we do not feel it is a safety defect and therefore cannot enforce a safety recall....it is down to Renault to deal with any customer feedback via their dealership network - and this is nothing that VOSA can get involved in".....sound familiar? P.S. This is not their reply, just an assumption
