It is likely that there is a loose connection somewhere, which someone with more experience on the layout/workings of a clio engine maybe able to help you with. what size engine is it?
If your Clio has a computer with a button on the end of the right steering wheel stalk that changes between screens (milage, mpg ect) you can check to see if its the dial itself thats at fault by doing the following:-
Press and hold he button on the end of the stalk
Insert the key and turn to 'Ignition on' (second click)
The dials should all start testing so you should know that it is not the dial itself that is at fault.
If you do not have the computer, you can do the same 'test' be pressing and holding the 'Trip Reset' button on the dash and do the above.
