Re: Really disappointed with Renault and starting legal action

Thats interesting, about the puma I mean:

the puma and tigra were segment competitors ,even tho the tigra didnt have "zombie Steve".
engine types were the ztech and ecotec respectively I think

My "engine blown" tigra:
1. On purchase as with most cars it had 12 month/unlimited mileage, but there were some doing 3 year warranties even in late 90's.

2.So I got a verbal agreement from the salesman to the effect that. "yeh if there are any BIG probs up to 3 years itll be covered.

3.18 months and 13k miles, my tigra engine got massive damage cam belt let loose.

4. dealer said theyd be good to me and cover it in a condescending way.."Thank you massah",grovel.

The internet /car owner sites were in their infancy at the time but:.. I discovered , engines were failing in large numbers all over the place, especially in the UK(much higher sales numbers).
Problem: cam chain tensioner, fixed in later production, but no recall, just a directive to fix no charge up to the 40k cambelt change interval(later reduced to 30k)

5. All well n good but there was no retrospective recall..Me Id been ignorant and was happy to get the out of warranty fix..even tho the dealer moaned about having to get head work done and outsourcing "thank you sir, may I please have another"

6. The thing is tho..I read at the time of one lady owner who had the problem happen at a similar mileage/age to mine: 1.5 years and 15k who wouldnt even accept a brand new engine.. she wanted a brand new car and got it (go girl )

This ..obviously was a "known, but not full recall" problem as determined by the bean counter economics.

For the OP You need to investigate, the prob ,Find out if irs a "known one".If it isnt and its just one of the probs that can happen to any car/make thats all the guarantee covers and suck it up

If you can find further evidence, that you arent alone, and there could be negative impact on maker rep you might have more luck
