The service interval is time related as well as mileage.
How long have you had the car?

The service indicator is usually set as the car leaves the factory, so if it has sat around for a month before being sold, you will see the message 11mths after you bought the car.
There may be the odd one in a million dealer that actually resets the indicator for the day of delivery.

The indicator is also mileage related, so whichever you reach first, mileage or time the service light will be displayed.

The car does not monitor the condition of the oil .
