I lost my one and only car key for my clio a few nights ago and have gave up hope in finding it. It looks like a new key from Renault is going to cost £130 ? And about 20-25 pound for new house keys.
That's what I get for taking keys out with me when at a club I guess!
Is there any way I can get a replacement key for cheaper than this because Renault have been robbing me out of money since I got the car and Im actually considering scrapping it if I cant somehow get a new key cheaper than this from a locksmith or something.
Any help appreciated!
Try a decent locksmith, they usually advertise it as key cloning. As long as you have a spare key they can copy from that.
I was quoted £180 for a key by a ford dealer for my daughters car.
I asked a local motor factors if he knew of anywhere that cloned keys and he said I do them, as i had the car outside he did it there and then for £70.
Looks like I will be scrapping the piece of S**t then lol, I will never go to Renault for anything, the amount of money they have taken me for already is unreal
Good News! I thought id ask Renault if it was possible to get a new hard plastic key for the car as a central locking key is too expensive at £190 and I would rather scrap the car than pay that. He then said he could get me a replacement hard plastic key that will start the car and manually unlock doors for £55
£55 is not bad I guess considering it does have to be chipped and shipped over from France.
When I called I asked for a plain hard key replacement as i had lost the one and only key I had for the car. They called back an hour later and told me I had 2 options...Pay £190 all in for a new romote central locking key or pay £55 for a new hard plastic key which does not operate central locking.
I was told by an auto locksmith that renault don't like people knowing that its possible to get a cheaper non central locking key from them, probably because they would rather rob us of our money than help us save money.
If Renault tells anyone they do not do replacement hard plastic keys, tell them you know someone who got one for £55 ordered directly from Renault!
When a car get to 10 years old the original manufacturers do tend to change their attitudes when it comes to providing spares as they know it's likely there will be serious after-market competitors.
I have seen similar situations arise with my local Renault dealer. For instance last year they were selling genuine clutches much cheaper than the local branch of Europarts next door.
Try your local locksmith, my local guy was able to supply me with a transponder key...will unlock the car via key only, and start the car (no buttons on key for central locking) cost £25 incl. vat.
