A new / replacement sensor will be required Im afraid. Renault normally put them in one of the wing mirrors. Look for a small dimple in the bottom of one. You'll need to take the glass out to replace the sensor IIRC.
I think you just need to adjust the mirror down (using the electrics) to as far as it will go. Then you should be just about able to see the reverse of the glass. There may be a plate on the mounting of the mirror glass with ball joint that connects into a socket on the wing mirror itself. There is sometimes a little tang you have to press to enable you to pull the glass out. Failing that a sharp tug might do the trick.
When fitting it back you just need to push the glass back into place and the ball joint should click back in.
