Got a 98 Clio 1.2RN and the speedo is intermittent. Few people (including an AA mechanic) have told me it may well be the speed sensor which is on the gearbox but nobody can find it. Can find a breather cover on top of the gearbox and the reverse light connector hidden at the back of it but can't find the speed sensor anywhere. Anybody know where it is so I can play with it???

The road speed sensor cable is part of the speedo cable as far as I know.

Speedo sensor is on the diff, at the back of the gearbox above the o/s driveshaft, quite tricky to spot at first but easy enough once you know where it is, it has three wire connector on top, quite common for failing.
