Hello

Had some interesting problems from my 2006 Clio 3 DCi 86 recently.

Firstly it wouldn't start without giving it loads of gas, then the passengers airbag warning light came on and then to top it all off when I remove the ignition key the engine stays on!

I have read a few threads on here and it sounds like water has got into my relay box. The car is fitted with those 'follow me home' headlights that seem to let water in somehow due a design fault.

I can ever hear water sloshing about underneath the engine when I go round roundabouts.

How much does it cost to replace the relay box? Would you go to an official Renault dealership or get an independent to look at it? Do you think its the relay box that needs fixing? Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Stephen

Hi folks

I've a problem and hoping that someone could point me the right direction of the cause.

We was out in the bus (3.0 V6 1998) yesterday afternoon everything was fine until i went to kick down and the engine just shut down.

I pulled over and restarted it and it didn't sound very well at all.

Continued on and again went to to accelerate and again the engine cut out.

Pulled over and tried to restart it...nothing....for 20 minutes until I realised I was wasn't in 'Park' felt rather daft as you can imagine.

Anyway, now i restarted it and the engine management light lit up and pulling away was painfully slow....until we hit a hill and it refused to climb it....it did in the end, inches at a time.

Down hill it was fine, managed at least 25-30 once I'd built up a bit of speed...I drove home in the bus lanes because there's never any buses in them anyway as we all know.

The noise is present when in park, but worse when it's in gear.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Hi.
First post so sorry a it’s a bit long winded.
We've just recently bought 2 Mk.2 Laguna's after finally replacing my other halves Mk.1 Laguna which to be honest gave 6½ years of relatively trouble free motoring, ok so the central locking played up towards the end but all in all a great reliable motor.
I just bought the other on Monday after having a Ford Galaxy for 4 years.
So we have now
53 Reg 1.9dci Laguna Extreme (hers)
54 Reg 1.9dci Laguna GT Estate (mine)
My question is on the SatNav / Radio setup.
The Extreme has a Separate SatNav CD in the Glove box, Separate GPS Console, a separate CD/Radio all displayed on a Colour screen.
Mine has a combined SatNav/CD/Radio that displayed on a small matrix style screen, thinks its classed as Monochrome and Level 1 SatNav.
I was a bit disappointed when I picked it up as I thought it was the same but to be honest I was pleasently surprised at how good it was, anyway I have a TomTom I can use if need.
One thing that will annoy me is that I'll have to insert the Navigation CD to program it then I can insert a normal Audio Music CD, a bit of a pain really.
So is there anyway this can be converted to have a separate CD/SatNav, or any other options available?
Are there any after market MP3/Radio/CD players that can be installed in the spare covy hole and somehow fed into the main unit?

Sorry for the Q's but thought I'd ask :)
Thanks all and nice to be on such a informative forum :)

Shane

Hi Everyone,

My first post here, hopefully someone here can help. Briefly, I have a MkI, pI laguna estate in the U.S. It originally came from Italy, and the owners manual is in Italian. I can't read Italian.

Car has 62k miles on it, runs great until tonight, when I came out of a restaurant and it would not start. Sounded like no fuel, so I pulled one of the hoses to the fuel rail and no fuel. Dry as a bone, in fact.

So, I'm wondering if anyone could tell me where the fuel pump relay and any inertia switches are. That way I can start troubleshooting.

Also, does anyone have or know where I could find a repair manual for this car? We haven't had Renaults in the States since about 1988 or so, and, needless to say, this is an extremely unique car over here.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Can anyone assist me with information about the compatibility between Renault models of the Carminat disc reader please? I have a 2002 Vel Satis 3.5 which appears to have a disc reader fault. It keeps ejecting the disc, and trying a newer and perfect genuine disc does not make any difference. I cannot hear anything whirring within the disc reader when a disc is inserted, so I am assuming it is faulty. As the car is newish to me I can't say how long it has been like this, as I have never had the Sat Nav working (vendor told me a porky!!). On removing the offending disc reader, which is mounted horizontally in the glove compartment I have found the Renault part number to be 8200 138591, Model no 22SY596/82z (that may be 62z at the end), with a VDO number RN596F2001 7680. I am much more likely to find a decent secondhand unit from a Laguna, but will it be compatible with my car? Will I have to find a disc reader from a Vel Satis? Any info would be helpful, as Renault want £825 plus VAT for an exchange unit! Regards, Steve

hi all,

I've had my clio for about a month now and i've noticed two things which are worrying me a bit

The first is when i'm above 20 mph (most noticable around 40/50) there is a loud humming noise from the front left part of the car. I thought it was tires as i got 2 new ones on the front but i dont think its that. someone else said maybe wheel bearings but i dont think its that either as if i press the clutch the noise stops straight away and returns when i take the clutch off ?

The second is around 30mph when engine braking it sounds a little rough, possibly like something needs lubricating (best way i can describe it is like an old ford escort or fiesta engine tappetts) I hope its nothing serious..

The car is going in for a service and mot next week too is there anything on a diesel service that might help with the noises? The mechanic i go to is very reliable and have used him for many years so if there is something i can ask him to look at for me whilst its in i'll ask..

thank you

I have read similar problems on here, but so far, none are exactly the same issues, and none of the suggested ideas have helped, so hopefully somebody will have a new thread which may help me.
A short while ago, my roof simply stopped operating mid close.
A smell of burning bakolite was present in the car, so my first thought was wiring, or motor.
I carried out the usual procedure for manually closing the roof, and recently replaced the motor for one I obtained from a scrapyard.
I re-set the release mechanism for the hood cover, and proceded to open (lower) the roof.
This operated just fine, and the hood cover opened to accept the opening hood, and then locked down to complete the opening procedure.
I then tried putting the hood back up (Closing it).
The release mechanism released the cover, and the window section of the hood lifted to give clearance for the cover to open, but before the cover began to open, the process stopped, and I got a series of beeps from the switch.
I have had to manually close the hood again, but I would like to fix this as soon as possible.
Can anyone help me?
Many thanks for any suggestions.

Hi there,

I have a 52 plate 1.2 16v Clio Expression and have had a few issues with it recently and wonder if you guys know anything that maybe causing it.

It started last night when I broke down, the car just kept turning over and would not start. The AA came to it and said it was the crank sensor they cleaned this and the car started and got me home and to the garage in the morning; however when I drove it to the garage the cars revs seemed to be fluctuating wildly, and often jumped 500.

I picked it up from the garage this evening and when I tried to start it it still was turning over. The mechanic pressed the accelerator whilst turning the key and the car stated. I drove it 500m up the road to my house and left it for an hour.

When I came to start it it had the same issue but when pressing the accelerator it would start. I then drove for around 13 miles (the vast majority on 60 roads without stopping) and the car had some issues pulling, it would feel sluggish and unresponsive for around 5 seconds and then be fine this happened only once or twice during the journey. Once I got into a local town and started having the stop and start the car got worse and then got stopped. I turned it off and on and the revs jumped to 1500 and then started to jump up and down slightly until it got to nothing. It was left for 10 minutes then started fine. The car was then left for an hour and drove the 13 miles home, it had more power issues on the way home and hit this power barrier once every 2 - 3 miles. It stopped again when I got home.

I've seen some similar issues on this forum and they've mentioned coils and throttle body cleaning as a solution to simiar issues. What do you lot reckon? Could this be related to the crank sensor? Also the electrical fault light has being on for the last few weeks.

Thanks for any help.

Hi All

I recently had the dreaded 'Sensor Fault' message on my tyre pressure monitor system. I found the thread about the Tyre Pressure Monitor and tried the various methods suggested (Increase/Decrease tyre pressures, check control box under car and reset by removing the main engine management fuse) and now get the "Tyre Pressure OK" message but none of the pressures are actually displaying. Even when I reduce one of the pressures down to 25psi and drive for 10 mins, It still displays "Tyre Pressure OK". Does anyone please have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Hi There

My Scenic 1.6 automatic (2000 X plate) regularly jumps into what feels like 3rd gear when slowing down to very low speeds, e.g. just before stopping at traffic lights. Turning off / on the ignition solves the problem; dropping into neutral just before stopping also seems to help (but not always). Very occasionally the gearbox warning light comes on.

I've taken it to a Renault dealer and they've said there's a fault on the speed input sensor but the root cause could be either the sensor itself, computer related or wiring related. They've said they can't fully diagnose without further investigations but their best bet is a minumum of £700 of work to solve it.

I want to sell it P/X but it's not worth much more than that to a dealer. Just wondering whether anyone has any wisdom on what the issue might be / whether there's a cheaper route to Renault's suggestion? Already tried a local gearbox specialist and he seems to think the price is about right.

Also, if I did nothing and decided to keep the car, would I eventually kill the gearbox by pulling away in third regularly?

All advice gratefully received!

The Cambelt of my 55 reg grand scenic 1.9DCI with 70K miles broke without any warning. Once the RAC had a look I got them to take it to my nearest Renault main dealer. £2000 pounds later with new valves cambelt etc, I collected the car, I quickly noticed there was a lack of power changing up through the gears, once I got on dual carriageway heard whistling noise. contacted dealer said something wrong, took it back, they said they had to do something with the engine managmnet system, no change, exactly the same. Wife drove it to Dover the car ground to a halt, smoke pouring out the car revving away even though the wife had taken electronic key and tried to press start button to turn engine off. Upshot several investigations have shown the breather hose wasn't connected. the Turbo is blown, oil and anti freeze poured out the car, Main dealer saying nothing to do with them, The cost to repair/replace engine, recon est £1000 + another £2000 to remove /install is more than value of car.

question Would the breather hose be the cause of the engine failure, the answer will decide if I take the dealer to court or scrap the car

On my ford astra I had to buy a passport which gave key details, radio details etc then got a key cut to my code and programmed it myself with an opcom which was a lot cheaper than £160 ford wanted.

Not had experience with megane's but guess this is a Mk1?
It was supplied with a wallet and inside is a Sticker that gives, ignition key number, radio codes etc, is this the details i need?

Is it a simple job of going to Timpsons and getting a key cut and programmed or is it as bad as the ford and its a Renault only job?

Or is there a way around like I found with the Ford?

Thanks guys

Hello, I'm new to the Clio, new to computers and very new to this site so please forgive my newness.

I am having trouble identifying the automatic rear brake adjusters, The Haynes manual pictures look like the brakes on my car but, the actual components are marked Bosch instead of Bendix. I need to replace the left and right adjusters and want to be very sure before I mess with the braking system. Following is hopefully a list of all the relevant car identifiying info.

CLIO RL 1.2
3 DOOR
II49
CHASSIS VF1357K0F17148112
ENGINE F359663
forgot to say its a 97 and its red!

Also, as new bits are out of my reach at the moment any suggestions would be apreciated. Thanks.
