The car has been back to two different dealers 6 times for rectification. However the current consumption is 10-11l/100km at the moment. The mechanics have repeatedly done diagnostic checks and report that all is well. The car has been serviced and all filters changed. The sensors have also been checked OK, but the consumption gets worse. Any ideas?

Hi folks

I've a problem and hoping that someone could point me the right direction of the cause.

We was out in the bus (3.0 V6 1998) yesterday afternoon everything was fine until i went to kick down and the engine just shut down.

I pulled over and restarted it and it didn't sound very well at all.

Continued on and again went to to accelerate and again the engine cut out.

Pulled over and tried to restart it...nothing....for 20 minutes until I realised I was wasn't in 'Park' felt rather daft as you can imagine.

Anyway, now i restarted it and the engine management light lit up and pulling away was painfully slow....until we hit a hill and it refused to climb it....it did in the end, inches at a time.

Down hill it was fine, managed at least 25-30 once I'd built up a bit of speed...I drove home in the bus lanes because there's never any buses in them anyway as we all know.

The noise is present when in park, but worse when it's in gear.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Hi Everyone,

My first post here, hopefully someone here can help. Briefly, I have a MkI, pI laguna estate in the U.S. It originally came from Italy, and the owners manual is in Italian. I can't read Italian.

Car has 62k miles on it, runs great until tonight, when I came out of a restaurant and it would not start. Sounded like no fuel, so I pulled one of the hoses to the fuel rail and no fuel. Dry as a bone, in fact.

So, I'm wondering if anyone could tell me where the fuel pump relay and any inertia switches are. That way I can start troubleshooting.

Also, does anyone have or know where I could find a repair manual for this car? We haven't had Renaults in the States since about 1988 or so, and, needless to say, this is an extremely unique car over here.

Thanks in advance for any help!

hi all,

I've had my clio for about a month now and i've noticed two things which are worrying me a bit

The first is when i'm above 20 mph (most noticable around 40/50) there is a loud humming noise from the front left part of the car. I thought it was tires as i got 2 new ones on the front but i dont think its that. someone else said maybe wheel bearings but i dont think its that either as if i press the clutch the noise stops straight away and returns when i take the clutch off ?

The second is around 30mph when engine braking it sounds a little rough, possibly like something needs lubricating (best way i can describe it is like an old ford escort or fiesta engine tappetts) I hope its nothing serious..

The car is going in for a service and mot next week too is there anything on a diesel service that might help with the noises? The mechanic i go to is very reliable and have used him for many years so if there is something i can ask him to look at for me whilst its in i'll ask..

thank you

Hi there,

I have a 52 plate 1.2 16v Clio Expression and have had a few issues with it recently and wonder if you guys know anything that maybe causing it.

It started last night when I broke down, the car just kept turning over and would not start. The AA came to it and said it was the crank sensor they cleaned this and the car started and got me home and to the garage in the morning; however when I drove it to the garage the cars revs seemed to be fluctuating wildly, and often jumped 500.

I picked it up from the garage this evening and when I tried to start it it still was turning over. The mechanic pressed the accelerator whilst turning the key and the car stated. I drove it 500m up the road to my house and left it for an hour.

When I came to start it it had the same issue but when pressing the accelerator it would start. I then drove for around 13 miles (the vast majority on 60 roads without stopping) and the car had some issues pulling, it would feel sluggish and unresponsive for around 5 seconds and then be fine this happened only once or twice during the journey. Once I got into a local town and started having the stop and start the car got worse and then got stopped. I turned it off and on and the revs jumped to 1500 and then started to jump up and down slightly until it got to nothing. It was left for 10 minutes then started fine. The car was then left for an hour and drove the 13 miles home, it had more power issues on the way home and hit this power barrier once every 2 - 3 miles. It stopped again when I got home.

I've seen some similar issues on this forum and they've mentioned coils and throttle body cleaning as a solution to simiar issues. What do you lot reckon? Could this be related to the crank sensor? Also the electrical fault light has being on for the last few weeks.

Thanks for any help.

It has burnt around 4 litres of oil since i got it in February, also it failed the emissions test which could have somthing to do with it?????

As always, any advice greatly appreciated!

The Cambelt of my 55 reg grand scenic 1.9DCI with 70K miles broke without any warning. Once the RAC had a look I got them to take it to my nearest Renault main dealer. £2000 pounds later with new valves cambelt etc, I collected the car, I quickly noticed there was a lack of power changing up through the gears, once I got on dual carriageway heard whistling noise. contacted dealer said something wrong, took it back, they said they had to do something with the engine managmnet system, no change, exactly the same. Wife drove it to Dover the car ground to a halt, smoke pouring out the car revving away even though the wife had taken electronic key and tried to press start button to turn engine off. Upshot several investigations have shown the breather hose wasn't connected. the Turbo is blown, oil and anti freeze poured out the car, Main dealer saying nothing to do with them, The cost to repair/replace engine, recon est £1000 + another £2000 to remove /install is more than value of car.

question Would the breather hose be the cause of the engine failure, the answer will decide if I take the dealer to court or scrap the car

I wonder if anybody could help shed light on intermittant engine cut out.Power loss and engine cuts out occasionally under acceleration up hills or when making engine work hard (happened to my wife, 70mph fast lane of A30 nearly got her killed as power steering and brakes went). If you disengage clutch can restat on the move. Garage diagnostic says TDC, replaced and still does it (thought TDC only really affected start from still) but nothing is logged in computer history and they seem at a loss. Have had air flow sensor cleaned and injector replaced in the past but garage swear this is not the problem as fault log would be stored.Currently they are thinking 'secondary fuel pump' Can't see any threads similar, any suggestions would be really appreciated - thanks

Hi

I own a 2004 Scenic II 2.0L 16v privilege and have the following problem:
1) the digital temp gets to normal temp and then starts fluctuating and then goes off and on several times with no impact on performance.
2) then sometimes hot air starts blowing from the air vents and then the car starts jerking and sudden loss of power. The car doesn't cut out but if switched off then it wont start. After around 5 attempts at starting it starts and runs as if nothing is wrong.

The temp gauge issues happens almost every day. However, the hot air and jerking issues happens occasionally however i do think the two are related.

Can anybody help as i don't have a clue as to what it could be. No error messages on the dash either.

Having just brought my other half a Modus 1.5 diesel, I am now being given the list of "things to do/buy" for it!

I went to buy a locking fuel cap, but the man at Renault told me that on our one, the fuel flap locks with the doors. Well I've looked, and it doesn't, there's no solenoid, no mechanism to do this. So I'm thinking, there must be a model with a locking cap, I need that one. So my questions are;
1] Is there a Modus Diesel locking fuel cap?
2] Is the cap vented or non-vented?
3] How can the parts list specific to our car be so wrong?

Cheers

hi all, a few weeks ago, while in my 2.2 52 plate espace, i put my foot down and the engine cut out with the engine warning light showing. took it to a Renault main Dealer and they replaced the injectors and injector pipes. £1349! two weeks later same thing happend again except this time it also struggled to start, they then replace TDC sensor and crank sensor at £250. had it a day and it started fine, but it still kept cutting out. they took it for a week (granted they provided a curtosey car) but they said they couldnt replicate the fault, so it seems to have resolved it self. however 3 hours ater picking it up, the SAME problem again, engine cutting out. now they say a new diesel pump is needed at £825 and they will fit it for free. surley as i have spent £1600 and they STILL havent fixed my fault, i shouldnt have to pay for yet another part?

what are your thoughts about the above, are they right to keep charging me even though they havent fixed the fault the 3 times they have had the car. oh and to top it off they offered me £500 in a part ex!

rant over

Hi guys,

Firstly, thanks for your really helpful website - its been a big help in the past. Now to see if you can help with this!

Our car is a 54 plate Megane 1.9 DCi 120. It had displayed the 'check injection' message for a while and then the emissions light came on. Last Friday we took the car in to get 2 new glow plugs and the EGR valve cleaned out.

At first it was good-as-new. Now, the car is running fine above 2000 rpm but is very hesitant below that, to the point that is nearly stalling as we pull away. This problem was not there before the EGR valve was cleaned though it may just be coincidence. Under hard acceleration, the car has started depositing a line of 'soot' on the road. No warning lights/messages are showing.

I'd be much obliged for any advice or ideas anybody may have. Many thanks :d

I have tried fuel cleaning additives but I think it may be an air sensor or egr problem. Am I thinking along the right lines?

Hi all,

First post so my apologies if this has been covered but I have looked and can't see this anywhere else.

Recently purchased a 56 plate 225 cup and feel it doesn't make the BHP it should.

Best 0-60 I have recorded is 7.9 secs and it seems to run out of steam at 100. I can honestly say my 9 year old saxo VTR would not be far behind.

Didn't notice anything on the very short test drive. Car was serviced, MOT'd and RAC inspected before purchase and passed.

Concerned as I drove a 15 year old Volvo s40 t4 at work today and it was clearly faster and makes 22BHP less.

Engine sounds and runs smooth. Turbo is spooling as I can hear it whistle (quietly) and a slight dump from reticulation valve on gear change. Full and documented SH and 32k on the clock so low mileage.

Hoping someone may have a suggestion. Leaking pressure from the turbo? Or previous owner has had a very sedate map added. Anyone know if the fly by wire throttle can get muddled? It just feels like it isn't giving it's all.

Hoping it's an easy fix whatever.

Any advise appreciated.

Cheers.

Matt

Hi - I bought this car at auction last week for £1200, it has 85000 miles on the clock and there is not a mark on it. There is 8 months MOT on it and it was serviced in June, tyres are great so i thought i was quids in. How wrong could i be? When i drove it away it was sluggish for 5 minutes then drove fine for the 30 mile journey home. The next morning when i started it it was like kangaroo petrol, there was no power from the accelarator and i needed to rev to 4000 to move. On the motorway it struggled to get to 80 then 2 mins later it went to over 90 and i felt i could have got more, hovever even at this speed it still "held back" every 10 seconds. Today the revs went crazy, over 4000 when the car started, I am concerned that i've bought the proverbial pig in a poke. I have searched other threads and found out about the throttle body etc, my toxic light also came on but no EML. How much is this going to cost to fix? I have around 150 - 200 max that i can spend, am i better putting it back to auction?

So my plan for this weekend was new front discs, pads & a new passenger-side driveshaft as my current shaft's outer CV is split.

After fighting with the torx disc retention screw on the passenger-side brake disc, got the discs and pads done yesterday evening/this morning (see post on 'wheels' forum ref caliper bolts).

I have spent a small fortune on new driveshaft, gear pullers, ball joint separators, impact drivers, etc (have not done much previous maintenance so have not previously needed these tools).

And now I just CANNOT shift the driveshaft retention bolt! I haven't got a very big hammer, but using my impact drive with my biggest hammer is rotating the impact driver round, but not moving the socket at all! The Haynes manual makes no mention of a left-hand thread or anything, so I'm assuming anti-clockwise is the right direction to turn to remove the nut.

Is this a common issue, or have any experienced folk got any ideas? I expected it to be tight, but not this tight!

I'm giving it up as a bad job for this weekend, my car is still in one piece but I don't need it this week anyway.

Also, those of you who have done this yourselves, do you all re-tighten the (new) nut to the Haynes-recommended torque of 280Nm? That is a LOT (although I do appreciate the significance of keeping this joint secure!).

I am so ****ed off at myself for this. I'm usually very meticulous, and now that I felt a little under the weather I didn't follow my usual regime.

So the big question, how bad is it?
Because I really don't feel like draining the oil to the correct level. Like I said it's half centimeter over.
