2002 Renault Scenic 2 liter Air bag light stays on

The Airbag light stays on
I have disconnected the battery and reconnected
I have turned the ignition switch on and off which reset the Stop and engine management lights

I touched the timing sensor in the engine compartment and the engine cut out but restarted without trouble but the engine sensor light flickers or stays on for periods but the engine is still good

The fuel economy is +_ 31 mpg is this normal town driving
Currently in MJBM's garage:

Check the connections under the floor overs under the front seats. Though the light might have to be re-set with a diagnostic scanner.
