Very good question, to which I think the answer is, unfortunately, no. I have various bits of generic obd software that read and clear fault codes, but nothing like as comprehensive as the Renault dealers' software.

As well as the VAG you mention, Alfa have AlfaDiag which does a good job. Looks like an opportunity for RenDiag.

Pirated versions of the 'official' Renault software can be found on offer on the web but at quite high prices and I have no idea whether they actually work, or what hardware they might require.

diagnostics = bread and butter for dealers

this seems pretty much in line with Renaults policy of making work for their dealerships. The cost of diagnostics is fantastic given that there is an on board computer. That said I am told that the onboard computer simply retains faults until they are cleared - no permanent history to assist diagnosis or to check for changes such as mileage alteration.

I would gladly pay £50 - £60 for a diagnosis machine that gave me the history of every fault the car has had!

In reality all that should be needed is a lead and some software to install on a laptop -- it should have an easy to understand interface so that the end user can see what it is safe to do and what needs to be undertaken - will we ever get it ....ahem not until hell freezes over!

hello people ,which dipstick removed the link 4 diag, deecee.
nice to see you have manners... now you can stop spanning this thread with essentially the same message. if you have a read of the forum rules you will soon find out why the copyright material was removed:) and then you can stop reffering to anyone on this forum as a 'dipstick' thank you very much!

ok, just to clarify - if you take you cursor over to the left hand side of the forum you will find the heading 'information' and under that you will find 'view our rules'

if you care to read these you will find that rule number 1 says:-

1. Content
Although the administrators of this web site will attempt to remove as much questionable material as possible, it is simply impossible for us to read every message. All messages express the views of the member who wrote them, and neither the owner of RenaultForums, nor Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. (the developers of vBulletin) will be held responsible for the content of any message

To help us to avoid the need to "police" the forums, please do not post any messages that are:

a) Obscene or pornographic
b) Hateful
c) Threatening
d) Unlawful (including the posting of software cracks and/or serial numbers)

You should also remember that RenaultForums does not under any circumstances allow the reproduction of copyrighted material. This includes, but is not restricted to:

a) PDF documents such as Dialogys files
b) Screen prints from commercial software
c) Information from copyrighted pages on other web sites
d) Pirated software
e) Scans of printed documents
f) etc. etc.

Please do not circulate copyrighted material anywhere on RenaultForums. This includes public areas of the forum and private messages (PMs)

We can not stress highly enough how important it is that this rule is not broken

In addition, we do not allow the distribution of radio codes via the forum. We will also remove links to radio code sites where necessary. We are not confident that radio codes provided by anybody but a genuine Renault dealer are strictly legal, and are therefore not happy for this content to appear on the forum. It is, however, completely acceptable to ask for help in entering a genuine radio code. If you need a code, we would recommend that you contact your local dealer

We will also not allow the sale of, or discussions about, devices & techniques aimed at bypassing immobilisers or other security mechanisms

In reference to point c) above it is acceptable to quote material from other web sites but please acknowledge the source of the information and provide a link to the original where you think that this is appropriate

The owners of RenaultForums reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason. We also reserve the right to maintain the content of your messages should you choose to cancel your account. This allows us to maintain the integrity of the threads

now that is why the 'dipstick' that you reffer to has removed the content:)

on a related topic...
i have noticed on fleabay, OBDII diagnostics thingys that purport to be a reno CLIP or similar.
that is no doubt mass produced in a backstreet sweatshop of dubious location in Guangjong province#.
#(china, that place where the words copyright or patent seem to have gotten lost in translation (probably while we were still selling them opium back inthe 1800's))

has anyone seen or handled one of these dubious units and are they as much a waste of money as they look???
can anyone advise on haow to tell the difference between a original Renualt CLIP and Chinese clip?

(other than one fits nicely in the diags port of a reno (and almost tells you whats wrong with it whilst racking up maximum dealership profitability by giving off random high value item error codes) and the other in the bottom of a chinese knockoff AK47)

Yes I got the chinese copy (well I guess its a copy, can't see it being the genuine can clip for the price I paid)

The can clip works great, you can monitor/diagnose most of the sensors on Renault cars, there is an option to reprogamme ECU's or the UCH, but need a code from Renault themselves which is only available to the dealer network :(

I have only managed to reprogamme the reversing bleeper volume & tone & and you can if needed programme new tyre pressure sensors. (no code needed)
From what I gather the chinese copy does pretty much the same as the genuine can clip.

No quite as the OBD 11 BT model which comes with its own freeware software scan tool will not allow connection to ports higher than 10 unless you purchase new software from the maker.Mine looked for port 44 and would not connect to anything else!! all the other software supplied with it were demo versions only.

If anyone knows of good shareware to use with it PM me. Cheers

pity i dont work for a IT support company anymore that had the ADR support contract, as i used to do a lot of Renault support work around the country.
