Question grand Scenic Diesel Cambelt Change

Hi all, help wanted please, is there any way of telling if a cambelt has been changed when due? Just sold a petrol Grand Scenic and now going to purchase a diesel, not sure whether will be a 1. or 1.9 but both over the 72k and neither owner knows if been changed or not and no mention in service book. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: grand Scenic Diesel Cambelt Change

I don't think there is any definative to tell if it has been changed or not.

Call me cynical but I am sure the owners would remember having it change due to the cost.

If it has been changed you can't be sure if the entire kit was fitted including the tensioner and water pump (if driven by the belt) without a written record.

If it was done by a main dealer it would be in the service record.

If in doubt either don't buy it or factor the cost of a replacement belt as they will be overdue if they haven't been changed.

Re: grand Scenic Diesel Cambelt Change

Thanks for that. Would greatly appreciate an estimated cost of a cambelt & accessories change so know if its worth it or not. Cheers.

Re: grand Scenic Diesel Cambelt Change

I'd go 500 less than you want to pay for the car unless they can provide definitive proof - that'll make them motivated sellers.

Its a buyer's market just now, so if you are unsure - just walk away.

Happy hunting.
