Renault Espace 2.2dci Intermittent Fuel Injection Error

Hi,
2004 2.2 Dci Espace.
1. Error code first indicated Turbo booster switch... was changed.
2. Error code then said Air Mass flow scensor... was changed.
3. Pressure tested the main injector pump, ok, no problems.

When driving on the motorway above 60 mph display states Fuel Injection Fault. Car looses a little power. Can recover. Going up hills it can feel like there is a pulsing to the engine. Local garage have now given up of fear of spending all my money and have now sais to go to Renault main dealer...

Since using the correct oil I have not had any EGR valve issues.

	EGR Exhaust Gas Recirculation EGR is a NOx (nitrogen oxide and nitrogen dioxide) reduction technique used in most gasoline and diesel engines. EGR works by recirculating a portion of an engine's exhaust gas back to the engine cylinders. Intermixing the incoming air with recirculated exhaust gas dilutes the mix with inert gas, lowering the adiabatic flame temperature and (in diesel engines) reducing the amount of excess oxygen. The exhaust gas also increases the specific heat capacity of the mix lowering the peak combustion temperature. Because NOx formation progresses much faster at high temperatures, EGR serves to limit the generation of NOx. NOx is primarily formed when a mix of nitrogen and oxygen is subjected to high temperatures.

This sounds like a case of read codes fit new parts !!

As you have seen this rarely works with dci engines you need live data from the diagnostic machine sounds to me like it could be a vacum fault causing boost spikes making the ecu confused

Have they done a leakback test on the injectors ?

Totally sorted saved £££££

Ok, the 2.2 DCI engine, as fitted to my 2004 2.2 DCI Mk4 has a plastic rocker cover. Now this is a complex plastic, yes, plastic cover that incorporates some of the inlet manifold. What can happen is that this rocker cover warps and you loose pressure. This causes the system to think there is a problem with the injection system... hence the errors. You will see oil round the top of the rocker cover and when warm, air.

Renault quoted over £1000 but then said that this was a part that was covered under warranty and have covered 90% of the costs. So I only ended up with a smallish £114 pound bill.

Note, they have to strip down the whole injection system to get the rocker cover off and the injectors can break.

Any idea what they did at Renault, got the same problem and three independent garages later, with injectors pipe and seals changed, manifold changed and oil changed still not getting a result.
Is no three weeks since this started and mechanics do not know what to do!
