Good afternoon folks,
Excuse the lengthy story, but I hope to provide everything relevant in the first post. Car is a 1998 Je0E 2.2td.
My car has been in an independent garage with the battery disconnected for just over 2 weeks, and during that time has the engine removed for what originally was straightforward glow plug replacement.
Now that everything is back together again the immobiliser and perhaps
ecu are causing problems.
First sign of trouble was key remote locking not working, which means that enabling and disabling the immobiliser did not work - this is an infra-red key without the immobiliser transponder chip. The immob LED on the overhead console was on continuously. The garage believed that the immobiliser needed to be "unlocked" with a four digit code - stated in various posts in assorted forums to be obtainable from a Renault dealer. Both local dealers refused and said that the car had to go to them to do the work.
After searching around the web I fould a piece of software on this site -
http://renaulthelp.110mb.com/ImmBypass.html - which provided what was claimed to be an immobiliser bypass code and instructions. The code has been input using their instructions following which the immob LED is on continuously again. I also followed procedure posted in various places to re-sync the keys. The keys still do not unlock the car and the engine will not start. Additionally, most of the electrics are now live even with the key out of the ignition switch - dashboard live, elec windows operating, etc.
Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery will sometimes return the car to a more normal (albeit not able to start) state, but sometimes the dash and other electrics will immediately come live - hence the suspicion about the
ecu.
The garage and I are both stuck and don't know a way forward without an expensive trip to a Renault service department - including a 15 mile transport each way. Any bright ideas that could be investigated would be appreciated.
Thanks, Ian Campbell
