LPG Conversion

Wasn't quite sure where to put this post so apologies if its in the wrong place.

I am considering having our 2006 Megane 1.6vvt Sport tourer converted to lpg.

Has anyone had any experience of lpg conversions on this vehicle?

i was thinking of using this company :-


Has anyone heard of any good or bad experiences with them?

dunno about them, i have major doubts on any installer that claims a 1 day install!!!
(how many technicians are working on 1 car at a time???)

most conversions take about 3 days to do to a proffesional quality!

i had my lag2 upgraded at a Local specialist (Anglia Autogas) and it cost me about £1300
(he gets cars come in from all over the UK to be upgraded)

a quote like that one in leeds would make me suspect they are quoting single point injection (1 feed into the inlet manifold airbox) or are cutting corners on the installation!!!

modern renaults need multipoint injection and that requires the inlet manifold on the head to be drilled (thats a days job on its own, to remove, drill and refit)

shop about and go check thier work, if any doubt on how good they do the job, then look elsewhere.

Oh and use a nationally approved LPG installer, check for certifications and association membership.

I have fitted both single point and multipoint LPG injection systems. Single point systems are considerably cheaper than multipoint systems because they are simpler systems but that doesn’t mean there not any good, I have good results on larger engine cars.

The reason that Scenic’s don’t lend themselves to being fitted with single point injection system is the air box and throttle body configuration don’t lend themselves to having a mixer ring installed. The main reason it’s not advisable to fit single point systems to Scenic’s is the fact the Renault upper intake manifold is made of plastic and should there be a backfire then there is a risk the intake manifold will get blown apart!

It’s fair to say that single point systems are more prone to back fires but if set up properly it should be rare for this to happen. Multi point injection systems don’t usually have back fire problems

I have 2 cars on LPG, the Grand Scenic runs like a dream, nearly 60K now and still sounds like brand new it's so silent from inside you can't hear the engine when driving unless you really nail it.

From my experience I would say it's all down to the installer, make sure you get a good 1. LPGA approved installer etc, do your homework, I have a BIGAS system fitted to the Scenic 2.0 VVT Auto and an OMVL fitted to the Merc, both have been reliable. I can recommend Birmingham Autogas.


I'm sure other members will recommend others from there experience. But the guy above is situated just opposite Star City, he converts loads of taxi drivers car in Brum, thats why I chose him, if they trust him with their means of living he must be doing something right, I paid 1100 pounds just over 2 years ago, car still works fine.

You should ring different installers and ask their advice, ask for Naz at Birmingham Autogas.

They have quoted £1000 inc VAT for a conversion. Here is a reply to an email i sent them:-

Dear Rob,

We only can do a collection delivery service from inside 100 miles.
If you can come for conversion yourself then we can convert your vehicle.
We working with New generation multipoint sequential system OSCAR-N system.
We are approved by UKLPG association. The filler point can be installed next to petrol filling point.
All paperwork will be given to you after conversion.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

It sounds fairly good to me. Only thing is that it is 150 miles away.

I have heard that the inlet manifold needs removing but some companies claim they can do a conversion whilst drilling the manifold in situ? The one above quoted 3 days for a comversion.

If anyone knows of any good conversion specialists in the Yorkshire area it would be much appreciated. I called a couple in Hull, which is about 10 miles from me (not far enough lol) they are quoting £1500 + VAT. Seems a bit steep to me.
