Megane III Drivers Door Closing Problems

Hello all...

The drivers door on my wife's 59 plate Megane (Dynamique) has stopped closing over fully in the past couple of days. The car locks ok, but it does not seem to want to latch fully, and I'm worried that it screams 'break in to me!!' It also causes the car to frost over on the inside on our cold Scottish mornings!

I've double checked that nothing is jammed (seals, hinge or in the mechanism itself), but I can't seem to find anything. It doesn't make any difference if you try to shut it with a bit more enthusiasm, or lean on it once it's 'closed'.

One of my friends has a Clio with the same issue, so I'm not sure if this is a common problem? If I have missed this thread on a previous post, please accept my apologies.

I'm more than happy to take the whole car apart to get it fixed... just hoping that someone can give me a starter for 10!

Many thanks for taking the time to read this.

Cheers

Re: Megane III Drivers Door Closing Problems

Hello n wellcome
Hmm ..yours is out of guarantee yes?

Mine isnt and the top of the drivers door sticks out more than the bottom when closed.. they were supposed to adjust this but didnt at last service.
Itll be goin in again this month.

Is yours only closing to the first catch .it closes and is held but doesnt close fully?

Assuming its out of guarantee
Is it a 4 door or a coupe?
Coupes in theory are more prone to door drop cos the doors are longer.
The hinges themselves dont look terribly tough , but too early to say on mine.

Door adjustment at the hinge end is a difficult job,if the door has dropped a bit

If it hasnt or at least not very much ,you can adjust

The door catch and the striker plate on the car body.

The type of prob you describe is usually the the door mechanism is a little too low or the part on the door pillar is a little too high(with wear).
There probably arent any haynes manuals or similar out for the meg 3 yet, but the principle is the same for any door.
Use very small position movements.
The part on the door frame pillar should be the easiest to move but before you do any loosening or moving it might be an idea to mark the exact outline with a bit of paint so you can reposition exactly as it was before if things dont work out.

Id also check to make sure the spiked plastic part that sticks out at the bottom of the door mid way along is seating properly into its hole .

If you could provide some pics of door partially closed, the closing mechanism and doorframe catch and hinges even it would all help

Re: Megane III Drivers Door Closing Problems

Thanks for your prompt response!

The car is only just out of guarantee I'm afraid (as always happens).

It's a 4 door, and the spacing of the gap seems even all the way round. I had a look to see if there were any signs of movement in the hinge, but everything looks ok. The plastic locator looks ok too, and there are no signs of rubbing anywhere.

I should have thought about this, but I will get some photos in the morning.

Once again, many thanks for taking the time to reply.

Regards,

Richard

Re: Megane III Drivers Door Closing Problems

Before doing any home maintenance and dependent on things like did you allways get service done with place you bought it/renault etc.
I would check out the "Ive been a good boy" scenario,

Renault are v concered with improving their reliability rep atm.
New models in UK now have a 4 year guarantee,in Ireland its 5 years.
There may have been internal service bulletins that list door probs and "fix it" weel cover it if the guarantees not long gone..you wont be informed of things like that directly.(especially if its not that long since your last renault service.

Ok so u could just get a non comittal weel fix it full price to you any cost reduction is discretionary, but an enquiry to renault customer services UK wont do any harm especially if they get the feeling your gonna moan all over the net that renaults fall apart as soon as the guarantee runs out ;0,

Re: Megane III Drivers Door Closing Problems

Hi, not sure if this will help you but my Grand Scenic had a similar problem. In my case it turned out to be a quick fix, the chrome bit on the picture attached had moved. My dealer loosened the 2 screws on it pushed it back and tightened it up.

Best regards,
Dave18
