Angry Clio 1.2 2000 Engine cut out suddenly

The engine was running and cut out suddenly. It wil not start. Engine strains to turn over, but only a very very weak, or no starter effort. Is it an alternator problem or what? Battery ok.

Re: Clio 1.2 2000 Engine cut out suddenly

Start by checking the battery. Will the engine start on a push, tow or using jump leads?

Unhappy Re: Clio 1.2 2000 Engine cut out suddenly

Battery ok; I even supplemented it with another good battery via jump leads. It's as if the starter is straining to rotate; lights, etc. dim severely. But a jammed/faulty starter would not have caused it to cut out in first place?? or was that one of those coincidences?

Re: Clio 1.2 2000 Engine cut out suddenly

Check the flat braided earth strap from gearbox to inner wing.
Look from under the wheel arch with steering on full lock.
They can rot and can give slow cranking issues. Could also cause cutting out as some engine electrics will use the same earth path.
Also check battery to body earth points are clean and sound.
