Renault Kangoo - Diesel Starting Fault*FIXED*

Hello,

My kangoo has run since brand new with no problems at all and has now covered 60,000 miles. It has been serviced as per renaults guidelines but recently it has been as much use as a waterproof towel. It slowly became a major effort to get it started with the glowplug light coming on and the engine turning over but not kicking in, sometimes the immobiliser light would start flashing as well.

Simple i thought the glow plugs needed replaced. These were replaced and the starting was fine for the remainder of that day. Now what happens is that when starting the glow plug light will only turn on once every 50 attempts (Kid you not!) of turning the ignition on and once it does it will start. Sometimes though when it comes on though the immobiliser light will start flashing and then it wont start until i try another 50 times and the glowplug light appears again.

Should i just drive it towards a cliff and combat roll out at the last second or has anybody had the same problem and could enlighten me as to what could solve it. It is a company vehicle and dont want to have to go to my boss to explain that my van is going to have a £600 bill before i can get it back on the road.

I have researched this on the internet and the obvuis choice would be the glow plug relay needs replaced but what about the immobiliser light sticking on.

welcome to the forum. It's not one that I remember seeing before but we dont have a stack of kangoo drivers on forum. Hopefully someone will be able to help though

ahh-haa someone else with this problem,thought it was just me!!!.
It's the glow plug relay that needs changing.
symptoms were exactly the same on my van,took 2 call outs from RAC and a visit to a renault garage to find that out,my van has 120000+ miles on it so it cost me ***163;80+ to get it fixed,if you buy a relay and fit it yourself it won't cost much.

I had to call the AA and it turns out it was the main relay rather than the glow plug relay. I then took it to the renault dealer the nest day, Its ***163;16 for the relay but they charged me fitting of a extra ***163;34 to plug it in!!! I told them to hang fire with the work but when i phoned back and said i just wanted the part and i would fit it myself they said they had already fitted it. Dirty mofo's

Its running fine OK so far but my passenger door lock has seized and its ***163;150 to replace their own shoddy defective part! My airbag light also comes on and i have been quoted ***163;66 to "investigate" the fault.

yup,my airbag light comes on at least once a week,stays on for about 40 secs then goes out again.
the service light also comes on at the same time but it's being doing this for over a year now,i just ignore it.
had it checked on the diognostic when it first started happening but they could find no fault.
as it costs every time you take it to be checked i think i'll give that a miss,my van runs ok so i don't think it's a major problem,i've also done 45,000 miles while this problem has exsisted.
