Renault Clio II - Electronics - Airbag and Service light illuminated

Just bought my first car yesterday a 2005 renault clio extreme 4 16v and the above lights are on permanently on the dash i have read all the previous threads regarding the connectors under the seats but this has not worked. How can i tell if this is a genuine warning and that the airbag is missing.

Just to add I have just tried to reset using the wiper stalk method and the lights are still on.

If the air bag was missing there would most likely be siginificant damage to the dash and would only have gone off in a impact which would be noticeable on the bodywork.

I had the same problem on my clio for ages when I first bought it, mainly coming on when my mates got in the back, but after a few jiggles over the space of a couple of weeks it went off and hasn't come back on again, fingers crossed.

If you are really worried it'll be a trip to Renault or someone with an ECU code reader to check it out.

I was told by a mechanic that if the light stays on, its more than likely malfunctioning and will not go off, even in a crash. So get it looked as asap.
