misfiring megane fidji 2002

hello
My megane fidji 1.6 2002 has developed a misfire.
I have tested the coils by pulling them out while engine running and seems that cylinder 2 isnt working as doesn't effect the running of the engine while the others do. I put number 2 coil into cylinder 1 but it fires fine and coil 1 in cylinder 2 doesnt fire now.
So i think the coils are working fine.
So put new spark plugs in but still not firing on cylinder 2.
Any ideas whats happening as i belive i have ruled out the coils and spartk plugs.
Any help would be great
many thanks damien

Re: misfiring megane fidji 2002

Have you checked the wiring to the injector.
Is the spark plug getting wet after it's been running.

Might well be worth checking the compressions.
Currently in lancs dave's garage:
Tim made me throw it all away :(

Re: misfiring megane fidji 2002

hi thanks for the reply.
Wires for the injectors are all ok, yes the plugs are wet.
Done compression test and there is no compression on the cylinder .
So it looking like its a valve.
Many thanks for help

Re: misfiring megane fidji 2002

It would be adviseable to check on this faulty cylinder for a collapsed hydraulic tappet Before jumping to conclusions
Currently in mickeybo's garage:
1996 Renault Clio 1.9 Diesel.

Re: misfiring megane fidji 2002

Thanks for the advice!
It seems cheaper to put a new engine in and comes with 3 months warranty, however i will be taking the engine apart to find out what the problem was.
Been told by my mates dad who is a Renault mechanic that even if i change the valves and tappets its liable to of put ware on the engine and likely to happen again.
Does anybody know why there are so many of these engines available second hand at about 60-70k?
My engine had only covered 62k with full service history, whats the deal with these 1600s seems weird that they all seem to go wrong about the same mileage.
What are the chances that the new engine will go wrong?
Thanks in advance
