Hi forum regulars,
I'm new to the site and I was hoping someone with a bit of mechanical knowhow could help me.
My sister bought a clio sport 172 recently and I noticed an oil
leak from the gear box. I traced it to the gear selector seal. I have bought the replacement seal but would like any tips or suggestions if anyone has done this before. I seems to me that I need to pull the gear box to left side of the car so that i can disconnect the gear selector and replace the seal.
Does this seem retarded to anyone else? Why couldn't there be a bolt that holds the linkage in place, so that changing the seal only requires removal of the selector arm from outside the gearbox.
Does anyone have a recommendation as to a better quality seal perhaps or configuration as I can see this seal breaking again as it is a seal/bush for the selector arm and takes most of the load when you shift. Renault have really let themselves down with the design of this part.
