I haven’t removed an engine/box for a very long time so my thoughts are just thoughts.
I would imagine that the easiest way for a well equipped garage to change an engine is to remove the engine from below, complete with its drive shafts and/or front suspension. Then ‘on the floor’ separate off the gearbox etc.
I would have thought that such a garage and skilled mechanic would take ½ day to remove, ½ day to replace + the time taken to swap engines replace clutches whilst one is about it etc.
For the home mechanic like me, I would spend a lot longer removing the gearbox and then hoisting the engine out from above. However, I don’t know if with this engine there are any problems doing this.
I expect there will be a host of little things to test you though, like for example, overcoming the varnish glue that Renault use when sliding the splined drive shafts into their hubs. This cause me no end of headaches on a 1.2 Clio (P reg) when I was taking of the front hub carriers to change their bearings.
