The difference is the Xsara belt is straight foward to fit,the Scenic belt is more involved.£235 all in sounds a reasonable price.

The cambelt change in my old Scenic cost £1300.

OK - that was after is snapped going along at 30mph...

£235 sounds very reasonable, and my advise...just get it done!

Have you tried your Yellow Pages for cam belt specialists? I work in Essex and there are garages which ONLY work on cam belts. Have no idea if the car is more complicated, but I was quoted £68 for a Ford Sierra, 2 year gaurantee.

A mobile mechanic did it for £40 in the end. They were all over the YP!!!

I am in same boat as you (megane 1.4 16v due cam belt change). I live in staffordshire area and would appreciate it if you could send me the details of the french car specialist you refer to in your quote and let me know if you were happy with the service.

Many thanks, OM.
