Front coil spring broken!

I have found out today that the coil spring (off side front) is broken on my 1.5dci clio. It's only done about 50k and i think it's a bit early to have to replace it but hey, it's only money! Do I need to replace both front springs at the same time and am i better to source from Renault or a motor factor? also, how much of a job is it to replace them? have all the necessary tools apart from a spring compressor.

Just what you need in the run up to the festive season!!

Seems a very common problem on all makes of cars today I'm afraid

I think it is recommended to replace both sides but it is up to the individual obviously it will be double the cost and time involved.

You can get springs from most good motor factors.

A good spring compressor is essential.

You need to be very careful when compressing the springs.

Hopefully a Member who has changed springs will offer further advice

Is very common on all cars now, all these politically correct speed bumps and pot holes.
I would just do the broken one. Phone round a few factors the prices can vary greatly. Over double price dif. is not unusual.

Personally I'd replace them in pairs

Returning one to it's origional specification giving uneven suspension on your car would not be advisable IMO

I agree with Pat here I always thought Springs/shockers should be replaced in pairs and any I have had replaced in my cars over the years I have always opted to replace in pairs
