got car Scenic 1.5DCI 05 reg back from service 'reg varde' Rotherham, i got a litre of oil for top up, it is Castrol GTD plus 10w-40, on the back it states that it meets API CF ACEA B3, is this oil suitable for the engine? As it doesnt state that it is semi or fully synthic!

Currently in tony2311's garage: 2005 scenic 1.5dci
Renault changed the recommended oil grade for the 1.9Dci's from 10w40 to at least 5w40,due to turbo problems.I think that 5w30 has been mentioned by at least one Renault Technician on the forum recently.Not sure if this is relevant to the 1.5Dci though.

Currently in Lagdti's garage: 2003 Alfa Romeo 156 2.4 JTD Sportwagen (estate to you and me!), 2002 Alfa Romeo 147 2.0TS Lusso soon to also be in many pieces,and now a 1994 Land Rover Discovery 300Tdi with a 2'' lift kit and some girt knobbly tyres on it....
A 5w40 (fully Synthetic) oil would be the recommended grade for the 1.5dci.. Although 10w40 (semi) is OK..
5W30 is only used in the Euro IV 1.9Dci with FAP, so will not apply in this case..

Particle Filter
The Particle Filter is an additional filter fitted in the exhaust system that is designed to filter out harmful soot particles from the exhaust gases and help protect the environment. The Particle Filter is fitted exclusively to diesel engines and reduces emissions of such particles to below the measurable threshold of 5mg per km, which is well below the Euro IV emissions regulation standard of 25mg per km.
Whether or not a Particle Filter is needed to achieve these standards depends on several factors: vehicle weight, the fuel injection system or the type of gearbox. Soot particles are collected in the Particle Filter and eliminated periodically by automatic regeneration.
