Engine oil for 1.9 Dci - which type best ?

Hi there...

Can anyone suggest the best type of engine oil for a 1.9Dci (51 plate).

My Scenic desperately needs an oil change and from what I can gather from various sources including Euro Car parts - it is the 5/40 fully synthetic variety that I should be using. This is also mentioned in the Renault handbook supplied with the car ?

Only concern is that the oil would be "too thin" although mileage is a low 45k.

It does seem to thin for me but being older I remember most engine oils were something like 30-50.

It is imperative that you use the correct 5/40 fully synthetic though or your engine/turbo will not last long.

Most forum members reccomend that you should halve the Renault service intervals aswell.

Thanks for your reply.

Can you recommend a specific 5/40 diesel oil. I am concerned as to what should be used particularly over any turbo intollerance.

5w-40 is fine, not too thin at all.

If you look up your car here http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-861-car-engine-oils.aspx you should find a selection of suitable oils.

Cheers
