Megane faulty indicators 1.6RT

Hi,
Can anyone help. I have a 97 megane 1.6 RT, the indicators are becoming faulty. Sometimes the left side will not work, more often the right side will not work. I can get them starting by a quick flick of the drivers door window switch ! but I want to correct it.
I know the steering wheel pivot can damage the cable but is not that and the indicator stalk is ok.
I would like to try a second hand fusebox of the correct part number.

A) Is the fuse box controlled by the key ?
B) Is the ECU controlled by the key ?
C) Is the interior sensor controlled by the key ?
D) If I change the fuse box will I need it`s original key
E) I was told that the fuse box can only be factory programmed once, is this true ?
F) If I change the fusebox because I believe it has a
relay fault, do I also need the ECU, interior sensor and key & locks off the donor car.

Sorry for the technical questions but I hope
someone can help.

Thanks

Re: Megane faulty indicators 1.6RT

Hi and welcome to the forums

I've never come across this problem before.
However if you think it's a relay fault would it not be easier, faster and cheaper to replace all the relays in the fusebox?

If you feel you want to change your fusebox you will need everything you listed above except for the interior central locking sensor and the locks. You will however need the plip(key head) off the donar vehicle

The sensor is not coded to the car its just plug and play;
and the key you have has a removable blade so you can keep your origional locks and just swap your blade into the donar plip head.

I'm not 100% sure if the fuse box is even coded to the vehicle in the scenic 1 as the ECU stores the immobiliser info.
Someone will clarify this soon I'm sure.

Hope that helps

Have you checked out the hazard warning light switch - a known weak point on Renaults.

CPH1984 & Madnoel 10,

Thankyou for the replies. I first considered replacing the relays but the external ones are soldered in, the
other relays are inside the fusebox ! and opening the box may cause further damage.

I have replaced the hazard light switch with a second hand one, it did`nt improve the problem.

What I may do next is to take a chance on a replacement fuse box of the exact number/model as
I`m not absolutely sure if it`s coded. If it dose`nt
work, I`ll strip it down and unsolder the relays and tranplant them into the original box. Although if I get it wrong the Megane could be life less. I may carry on just flicking the drivers door switch.

Regards
Monkey spanner.

Re: Megane faulty indicators 1.6RT

Have a look at the fuse box beside the battery and check the maxi fuse holders for corrosion, will cause a drop in current to the fuse and relay box inside the car which will cause all sorts of bizarre electrical issues.
