CLIO MK1 1993 - loose gearknob how do i stick on ????

renault clio 1.2 gearknob is very loose and i cannot see a way of sticking it back on.

also i cannot see a way of taking a gearknob off a clio down the breakers.

what can i do apart from using grip fill, or silocone to glue the thing on???

Depending on whether there is a collar around the gearlever to select reverse, you could always drill a very small hole and use a self-tapping screw to grip it in place.

(I'd use this in conjuction with a good measure of Tiger Seal).

yes it does have the plastic bit that you lift up to get reverse, so your saying just drill through the gearknob into the plastic lift up bit and screw a self tappin screw through it???

No, you won't then be able to select reverse.

There must be a part of the gearknob which is in line with the lever and doesn't move in order to help select a gear - drill a small hole through that, and screw a self-tapper through that.

Tiger Seal can be found online, or from independent car accessory shops. Its better than silicone as it is very strong, yet doesn't become brittle once it fully cures, so it shouldn't start wearing away with every gearchange.

The principle of the self-tapper is similar to the aftermarket gearknobs which tighten using a grub screw tightened by an allen-key (or hex key).
