Xenon Headlight Adjustment

Hi,

Is there anyway that I can adjust my Xenon headlights as when I turn on my dipped headlights you can physically see the beam rise to what appears to be its maximum height. Because of this I am constantly being flashed by passing motorists because they think I am on full beam. Renault Clio 2005.

Regards

Phil

Re: Xenon Headlight Adjustment

Xenons should be self-levelling. Not sure how a Clio's self-levelling system works but on a Laguna there's a mechanism attached to the front suspension, could be worth checking to ensure that this hasn't been damaged.

Re: Xenon Headlight Adjustment

When you turn on the ignition, Xenon headlights cycle through a self check by dipping fully down and then settling into the normal driving position. If a fault is detected the lights stay fully down to prevent glare.

Seeing as your light rise up I would guess that the system is ok but just needs adjusting. This is done in the same way as normal headlights; there are adjusting screws on top of lamp unit. To do this accurately a garage needs to use their equipment but this is a simple and cheap job. A lot of garages do it for free if they need doing on an MOT

Re: Xenon Headlight Adjustment

This seems to have cured itself. I took it to my local garage to have it looked at. He put it on his ramp to check the joints haven't popped out. The ramp was the kind that the wheels are not supported it raises the car on the jacking points. When the car was lowered we turned on the lights and hey presto they lowered and seemed normal. The only assumption I can make is that one of the sensors had stuck and by raising it on the body with the wheels dangling in mid air it freed the stuck sensor. Anyway the lights have been OK ever since. Thanks to you all for your suggestions.
