2004 Grand Scenic electronic issues

Hi,
I'm new to the forum and have done a brief search but haven't found anything that covers the problems I'm having.

Anyway, I'll start off - a couple of years ago 'Check Parking Brake' came up on my dash. I rang the garage and they said to bring it in and they'll clear it. They tried but failed and I had to leave it with them. They said there was a wire bared between the seats or something like that. Anyway it went away for a while and came back. I ignored it. Sometimes other things would pop up like, electronic fault, steering fault, airbag fault and the engine fan would stay on, but they'd all go away again.

However over the past few months things have been getting worse - I'm driving along and electronic fault pops up on the dash, the wipers and lights come on and I've no control on them. The fan in the engine stays on and I have to force the car to turn off and it wont come back on 'til I wait for a while or I have to jump start it if the battery goes flat.

I've brought it to a garage, not a Renault garage as times are hard but the mechanic worked in a Renault garage before. Anyway, they suspected the computer unit and changed it out but I'm still having the problems.
The main problem is it's intermittant. I've had it back 3 or 4 times with them and it's clear when I get it back but kicks off again a day or 2 later. They admit that they're not sure what it is and suspect a bad earth somewhere.

Can anyone help ?

Thanks in advance

hi , where abouts are you located ?
are you getting any water / misting in the car ?sound like a water ingress or wiring fault to me ? check the footwells and under the front seats for water . also the engine bay next to the battery is a control unit called a upc board , get them to check that for water as well.

Hi Cockers,
I'm in Dublin.

They changed the upc out and checked for water there.

I do suspect water ingress somewhere - dogs and kids have the car in bits.

Where should I be checking for water and how would it affect the wiring under the seats and at the footwells ?

I do get misting a lot too.

under the passenger seat there is a big connector block which does the handbrake, rear airbags etc , and water ingress will cause all sorts of problems there , check under both seats and check the floor pockets , feel the carpet for water.

Re: 2004 Grand Scenic electronic issues

Thanks for your reply - I'll check that.

Just to be clear - I have one of them sliding consoles between the drivers and passengers seat - underneath this there's some kind of connections too - is this what you're referring to ?

If not and it's underneath the passengers seat as you say, theres the slide out drawer there - do I need to pull this out or dismantle it ?
