Noisy 2.2dci engine just installed

My Laguna II 2.2 dci died on me, so decided to get another engine and have a couple of cheap mechanics to drop it in.
Engine came complete , but no starter and alternator.
Car runs well and no smoke.
The engine sounds very noisy inside the car. We have checked the exhaust is not touching and engine mounts seem O.K. There is a vibration on the pedals but it seems to sound acceptable outside the vehicle.
Is there something fundamental they left off? Or have I purchased a duff engine?
Any comments very welcome.

Hello,

I would not know without looking but it could be a broken or loose engine mount. Have you at least got the cambelt, tensioners and waterpump changed on your replacement engine. If not get them changed as a snapped cambelt could prove expensive.

I don't have a garage just a driveway. The Modus 1.6 16v VVT Dynamique Auto is my Grandparents car which I also drive.

I have just found the problem, I think. The top engine mount bracket has a rubber tie rod which has perished. This part joins to the bodywork bracket which would make sense for my symptons.
