Laguna 2 replace entire exhaust

I need to replace the entire exhaust system on my Laguna 2. It has a hole in it about half way down the car (sounds like a tractor!) and because it is the original 1 piece exhaust I need to replace the whole thing!
Kwik-Fit have just quoted me £480 for it which sounds ridiculous to me!
I can source the entire system from the internet for around £250 and I'm well prepared to fit it myself, but before I buy it I want to know how hard it is to fit a complete new system.
I dont have facilities to get the car very far off the floor, just some axel stands.
Is it possible to change the complete exhaust system with the car on axel stands or do I have to bite the bullet and take it to a garage?
I wont take it to Kwik-fit anyway Im sure I can getter price than that!
If anyone had any guides or tips it would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Laguna 2 replace entire exhaust

Theres no need to replace the complete system because one part is faulty,it is possible to sleeve the pipe together either using a specially made compression joiner or by making up a sleeve with a larger diametered piece of pipe and couple of clamps.

Fitting exhausts on the floor is a real pain, but it is usually possible although some systems need to be fed up over the rear suspension meaning that you need the car a good few feet of the floor,I'm not 100% sure about the arrangement on the Lag 2 though.

I'd take the car to a few different independant garages and see what they have to say,I'm sure you'll find one that will have the skills and knowledge to be able to save you a large chunk of cash!.

Re: Laguna 2 replace entire exhaust

yes it is quite often a single peice.
you can get individual segments, it just means you need to cut the faulty section off (hacksaw etc)
renault do a special sleeve fitting (about £25) - recommended. instead of the cheapo U-Clamps.
A new Catalytic converter (metalic) is an insane price for a new one, £700+, Eco-Ceramic replacements are cheaper, but you will suffer power loss as they have higher backpressure on the engine.

i would recommend getting stainless steel units(same as originaly supplied), as they will last a lot longer than standard patern-part mild steel ones, which will rot out every few years.

shop about for original parts if possible, (ebay/breakers yards etc)

Re: Laguna 2 replace entire exhaust

OK I'm going to give it a crack. Does anyone have a full system for a 1.8 16v hatch for sale? In the SW London area if possible!
Thanks
