Hi All! New to Forum but have had my 99 2.2dt for a year or so!!

On Monday the gear selector cable snapped!!!! However I'm not gonna pay the £325 that Renault want!!!!! Does anyone know if the lever/cable assembly are the same on all Espaces fitted with the cable type selector????? I've been offered a second hand one but from a petrol!?!?

Any help would be appreciated!!!!!!

Re: Espace gear selector cables

Hi, I have changed the gear selecter cable in my previous Espace. It's a pig of a job. I had problems finding 1 second hand. Also, there is no garantee that second hand 1 will work. New 1 from dealer is £199 +vat . It comes with a selecter box and 2 long cables which connect the selecter box to the gear box . The job involves removing part of the exaust to get at the box to remove it from under the car , you also need to remove the air filter and the left hand side plastic wing arch to reconnect both cables. One to the side of the gearbox, the second cable is the gear selecter and needs to be connected to the top of the gear box. For this you need to remove few parts from under the bonnet to get access to I.E airfilter box and airflow sensor pipe. Hope this helps.
