Renault Scenic 2 - Electronic Parking Brake Faults *merged*

How does this work ?
Someone told me that it goes on when you select neutral and off again when you accelerate. Fine.
BUT what about the automatic version ? how does it work here ?

Would realaly appreciate a straight clear answer, and noone I seem to talk with can explain how it is suppose to work.

Many Thanks

Hi tabby and welcome to the forums. Please stick around - there are a few drivers on the forums with the new parking brakes fitted who will be glad to give you a bit more info...

Have tested the manual laguna & espace. In both cases the new handbrake level was right of the steering wheel where the old headlamp beam adjustment used to be on the phase 2 laguna. When needing to stop and apply the handbrake for a hill start you only need to gently pull back the lever to apply the parking or hand brake. Then it automatically releases as you pull away.

The handbrake only automatically applied when the engine was switched off. Not sure about when in neutral but your probably correct.

If the system fails the handbrake locks on. Their is a manual release in the boot if you need to get home.

Not sure I am entirely happy with the system and it takes a bit of getting used to.

Hi Folks,

My Scenic II, Handbrake applies when ignition is switched off, Disengages when moving off, Can be applied with ignition on/engine running by pulling small lever on dash, Can be disengaged ignition on/ engine running by pulling lever & pressing red button on lever, Can be disengaged by card in reader slot holding lever out & pressing red button twice ignition can then be switced off & handbrake will be deactivated with car in gear or wheels chocked i.e if car will be left standing for long periods or as handbook states chance of freezing in winter, If no power is available i.e flat battery tab in boot to disengage handbrake then visit to workshop to reset handbrake, My wife & I both easily adapted to the operation despite prior to purchase some road testers saying it was difficult, Only problem I have found is now when leaving a vehicle with a conventional handbrake I can forget to put it on luckily I always leave a car in gear .

Regards

Auto Parking Brake on an Automatic Transmission

Thanks for the responses.

Can I take it that there is no difference then to the way the parking brake works on a manual transmission car to that of an Automatic transmission ? (or were previous responses specific to the automatic transmission ?)

Thanks
