hi i own a p reg 1.6 petrol megan scenic today the electronic incident warning light came on what does it mean

The light is showing that the there is a fault in the engine management system somewhere.It could be anyone of hundreds of different problems to be honest,an ECU code read at a good independant garage should narrow things down.You'll need to find someone with the early type Renault connector and software though as I'm pretty sure your car doesn't have the standard 16 pin connection as it's too early.

Does the car drive OK?.If it hesitates at all then the favorite thing to check would be the vaccum hose between the inlet manifold and the MAP sensor on the bulkhead for splits/holes.

	MAP Sensor Map Sensor A MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure) is one of the sensors used in an internal combustion engine's electronic control system. Engines that use a MAP sensor are typically fuel injected. The manifold absolute pressure sensor provides instantaneous pressure information to the engine's electronic control unit (ECU). This is necessary to calculate air density and determine the engine's air mass flow rate, which in turn is used to calculate the appropriate fuel flow. (See stoichiometry.) An engine control system that uses manifold absolute pressure to calculate air mass, is using the speed-density method. Engine speed (RPM) and air temperature are also necessary to complete the speed-density calculation. Not all fuel injected engines use a MAP sensor to infer mass air flow, some use a MAF sensor (mass air flow).
