Tre tread direction??

I was checking the tyre pressures today on my Honda Civic (naughty word on this forum) and I happened to notice that the treads on one wheel were facing a different direction to the other.
The treads have a "V" curve shaped pattern and looking from the front of the car the "V" on one side was pointing upwards whilst the other was pointing downwards. From memory I believe the "V" shape should always be pointing downwards in order to force the surface water outwards.
I have hunted online but before going to my local tyre dealer can anyone confirm my findings.

Re: Tre tread direction??

Unless the tyre wall is marked with a rotation direction arrow it won't matter Noel

Re: Tre tread direction??

There is probably a directional arrow to show the way the tire should rotate when driving forward. If the tires have a distinct V-shape it's very important for the handling that the tire if fitted correctly.

Re: Tre tread direction??

If the tyre is directional or assymetric it will be marked by way of an arrow or by having 'inside' or 'outside' on the corresponding sidewall. In general if the tyre has a V tread pattern then your right to think that the V should point downwards like a tractor tyre, but if the side wall isn't marked then it technically doesn't matter.Ideally the V does need to be going fowards though to dissipate the water in the way you describe.

Re: Tre tread direction??

If it is a directional tyre it is either fitted the wrong way round on the rim or on the wrong side of the car. Is there another on the other side going the "wrong" way? What make and model of tyre is it? It would be possible to check on line with a tyre supplier like blackcircles.co.uk, camskill.co.uk or etyres.
