Intermittent firing trouble

Hi,

I own a 1997 Laguna (2.0l hatchback). It has run like a dream until about 3 months ago. After a long journey (1+ hours non-stop) I was sat idle in traffic and it sounded like the engin dropped down to 3 cylinders. This has happened a few times now, always occuring when sat in traffic. All cylinders seem to fire up after a few minutes or a few seconds after moving again. I have never had problems starting it.

My initial thoughts were either the coil or the crankshaft (TDC) sensor....bare with me Im not exactly a mechanic!...so I set it upto a computer but nothing showed. Whilst it was on the computer I ran it until it was hot.

My biggest worry would be that its the crankshaft sensor and if it was to completely die I would need a new car.

Id appreciate ANY comments on this as its a bit of a mystery and my job heavily relies upon the car for long distance driving.

Thanks!
