Smile Ashtray removal laguna II phase II

I'm new to the forum and was wondering if anyone out there had any hints on how to remove the ashtray from a laguna II phase II (1.9 dci Initiale 2005 model). The coating has rubbed off, I think probably due to dangling keys. I want to remove it to spray it. I have already removed the wood effect strips on the dashboard and the chrome exterior diamond badges and sprayed them in graphite grey which I think is a great improvement. I will post some photos when I find out how to do it.
I have already read some useful tips on the forum and hope that someone can help me out with this.

Mine's a 52 plate but all I did to remove the ash tray was a firm pull,

I'm pretty sure they changed it. As I recall, the whole ash tray came out on the Phase 1 for emptying, and (I think) the OBD connector was behind it. On the Phase 2, just an inner tray comes out, and the diagnostic connector is beneath a small rubber mat that's below the ash tray.

I do recall trying to remove the ash tray on the Phase 2when threading some wiring through, before giving up and doing the job with it still in place.

Or my mind could be playing tricks on me. It's four and a half years since I had the Phase 1.

Thumbs up Re: Ashtray removal laguna II phase II

Horatio you are right, they did change the design from the phase I. Did you try and remove the centre console around the gear lever or any other bits before giving up? I don't want to break anything!!
Cheers

The top of the centre console unclips easily enough. Just lift the armrest and grab the edge. But the ash tray and the rubber based coin tray beneath it are part of the dashboard rather than the centre console. If you're lucky, then removing the top of the centre console might give access to the fixings, but I wasn't looking for them whenever I've done it, so I couldn't say for sure.
