I'm pretty sure they changed it. As I recall, the whole ash tray came out on the Phase 1 for emptying, and (I think) the OBD connector was behind it. On the Phase 2, just an inner tray comes out, and the diagnostic connector is beneath a small rubber mat that's below the ash tray.
I do recall trying to remove the ash tray on the Phase 2when threading some wiring through, before giving up and doing the job with it still in place.
Or my mind could be playing tricks on me. It's four and a half years since I had the Phase 1.
