Clio 2 Driveshaft replacement
So my plan for this weekend was new front discs, pads & a new passenger-side driveshaft as my current shaft's outer CV is split.
After fighting with the torx disc retention screw on the passenger-side brake disc, got the discs and pads done yesterday evening/this morning (see post on 'wheels' forum ref caliper bolts).
I have spent a small fortune on new driveshaft, gear pullers, ball joint separators, impact drivers, etc (have not done much previous maintenance so have not previously needed these tools).
And now I just CANNOT shift the driveshaft retention bolt! I haven't got a very big hammer, but using my impact drive with my biggest hammer is rotating the impact driver round, but not moving the socket at all! The Haynes manual makes no mention of a left-hand thread or anything, so I'm assuming anti-clockwise is the right direction to turn to remove the nut.
Is this a common issue, or have any experienced folk got any ideas? I expected it to be tight, but not this tight!
I'm giving it up as a bad job for this weekend, my car is still in one piece but I don't need it this week anyway.
Also, those of you who have done this yourselves, do you all re-tighten the (new) nut to the Haynes-recommended torque of 280Nm? That is a LOT (although I do appreciate the significance of keeping this joint secure!).
