I have a 2005 Vauxhall Vivaro I have the same problem with black smoke check there is no air leaks from intercooler pipes and make sure the small pipe from the intercooler manifold housing which goes to the Turbo
boost sensor located R/H side of engine bulkhead is totally clear mine was blocked (rubber pipe and brass connector) this reduced smoke and increased power loads as I was towing my caravan to campsite struggled up every hill cleaned pipe out at campsite and flew home. Still some smoke under load but 75% better.
