Clio 1.5 DCI 65 Fan belt adjustment!

Hi guys and gals,

this is the first post on the forum as i have just bought the above car.

Nice wee 54 plate, 1 owner, 55000 miles with full history.

Now i was told the timing belt had been done, but im still waiting for the previous owner to get me the reciept.

Anyway,,,,,,,,, the fanbelt seems to be slipping and squeeling, only when the alternator is under load 1st thing in the morning.

How easy is it to adjust? i see the bolt and the adjuster, is it just a matter of tightening it up a bit? And how easy is it?

Thanks
Steven

Thumbs up Re: Clio 1.5 DCI 65 Fan belt adjustment!

Steven,
I have just changed the cam belt on my sons 03 plate Clio (1.2), this required the alternator belt to be removed, tighening is easy, there are 2 bolts, 1 at the top (pinch bolt) on a slotted alloy bracket, the other is at the bottom and just needs to be slackened off slightly, feel the amount of play in the belt before undoing either.
then get a piece of wood which will fit between engine and alternator, slacken off both bolts and using the wood lever the alternator away from the engine to tighten the belt slightly (just do a small amount - don't over tighten the belt), do up both bolts and test, it may take a couple of goes, and you may need another body to tighten the bolts while you hold alternator in correct position.
Pretty easy though, belts are cheap so it may be worth replacing with a new one if it's looking a bit tired.

Hope this helps

Ian..

Re: Clio 1.5 DCI 65 Fan belt adjustment!

If it is the same as my scenic 1.5dci it is a spring loaded tensioner which is self adjusting. Needs urgent investigating as a failed aux. belt can foul the cambelt.
If it is, a 16mm cranked spanner is needed to release the tension on the belt for removal.

Re: Clio 1.5 DCI 65 Fan belt adjustment!

K9K engines with airconditioning seem to have an automatic tensioner. K9K engines without aircon are manually tensioned. Belt should be tensioned so belt will vibrate at 234 +/- 5 Hz on bottom horizontal span.
