Renault Scenic - Won't start.

Sorry , I am new so go easy on me !

Owner of a 2000 Scenic Alize 1.6 for one month. No problems till saturday.Went to nearby town's Asda .No problem getting there but on returning to the car it won't start. Needles went up and down and warning lights just flashed but nothing more . Breakdown service came out and jump started the car to which it started and we were able to get home.He suggested that if it happens again we might need to get a new battery. On switching it off and back on again at home I had exactly the same problem. Bought new battery next day . With new battery the car then started but didn't idle . Took the car for a 20 mile drive to which everything was fine when we got back home.Started as soon as the key was turned and idled perfectly. Today it won't start. The enigine is turning and turning but nothing more. Any Suggestions ?

Just an update on the situation.. Searching the Forums everybody is mentioning the TDC sensor. I did as one person mentioned which was to unplug the Sensor and to see if the car starts. It didn't , so I just plugged everything back and thought I'll give it a try ...Yes, it started .. Am I to take it there is a problem with the TDC Sensor ?

Maybe, maybe not. The engine won't run without a signal from the TDC, so if you unplug the sensor, you'll definitely prevent the engine from starting.

It's possible that you had a loose connection to the TDC and disconnecting/reconnecting the cable sorted it out. But as you have an intermittent fault, it's equally possible that the fault just happened to go away while you were messing with the wiring.

Intermittent faults are always the worst to diagnose

Update

With there being so many other threads with problems relating to the Tdc sensor I decided to replace it and since then haven't had any problems with it starting . Thanks for the help to all on this Forum !!
