Renault Scenic 2 - Wipers Not Working

Hi i have a Renault Megane Scienic Rush 2005 plate. Today the front windscreen wipers would not work. There is no noise and they just wont move has anyone got any ideas to help me Thanks

Are sure they are not frozen to the windscreen with this really cold weather we are having? I assume your in the UK?

Have you checked the fuses?

Thanks but they are not frozen to window have been lifted off and have had to local garage who say they checked the fuses but not honestly convinced as the back wiper is still working are they on the same fuse ?

No I wouldn't have thought so as it would be on a totally separate circuit.

Ok so if the fuse is okay then I would check the relay. Don’t know about your car? But there may well be more than one relay in the fuse box that’s the same? So you could try swapping it over before going and unnecessarily buying a new one.

Would also check the connection to the front wiper motor. Could also be a faulty switch or wiper motor itself.

There won't be a relay as such,the wipers will be controlled via the UCH control unit.

The first thing to check is to see if power is getting to the motor and then you can work back from there.It's possible that the linkage has come off of the motor,this is something else that needs to be checked.If there is power getting to the motor and it's not working then the motor it's self is suspect and the earth needs to be checked to confirm this.If there is no power then the switch needs checking and then the UCH.

If the UCH turns out to be suspect then sometimes disconnecting the battery for a while will 're-boot' it and it will reset it's self,other times it will need to be replaced which unfortunately isn't cheap and it will also need reprogramming to the car.

	UCH UCH The UCH (Unite Centrale Habitacle) is an electronic control module that is fitted to many late model Renaults (early 2000's onwards.) It is responsible for controlling many of the non-engine related functions of the car, such as central locking, electric windows, and even some of the lights (e.g. indicators.) A brand new UCH is supplied with a blank memory. This must be coded (using the Renault Clip computer) to match the serial number of the ECU and key/card before it will work with the car. The memory can only be written once, so a used UCH cannot be taken from a donor vehicle to be used in another unless the ECU and keyfobs/cards are also transferred.
