Smoke started coming out of the steering column of my 04 Scenic at the weekend and there was a nasty burning smell. Its now at a garage and needs a new steering motor.
The garage ordered the part only to receive a call the next day saying renault had stopped steering motors being sold and you can only go direct to a renault garage to have it fixed. Renault must have discovered this is a common problem and perhaps a future recall or just a chance for them to make some money?
Has anyone else heard of this or had the same thing happen?
I have been able to get a part from a breakers yard and hope it will sort the problem without having to take the car to renault who want £1700 plus VAT to sort which makes the car worthless!
