Coming home from work last night, on the motorway I might add, my scenic just slowly died. The stop & warning light came on as did the battery and oil light. After 30 seconds, I got it started again and it read OIL OK and I managed to get off the motorway before it happened again. All in all 5 times on the way home.

I have been advised it may be the battery or the alternator. But I also noticed last night that the coolant gauge needle was way past the top of the gauge.

I havent been to a garage as yet due to work commitments, but I dont want to fork out a fortune either for the wrong part/parts.

Any idea what could be causing the problem, it was really frightening cutting out on the motorway and I am reluctant to drive the car even to the garage!
Any helpreally appreciated.

Have you checked the under-bonnet levels especially the oil and coolant levels:)
The high temperature reading would be of concern though.
