Hi all - I have changed the car battery in my Laguna Mk3 - the keycard will open the doors and turn the lights on and the radio will operate, but when I try to start the car it asks me to insert the card - when inserted it displays 'keycard not recognised'. Any ideas? Surely you don't need to get the key reprogrammed if you change the battery?!

Disconnect the battery again
Now measure voltage on the battery before you start messing with the keycard

Sometimes just a disconnection of the battery is enough
And No should not need get key reprogrammed when changing the battery
Assuming you only have one Key card here

yes, only one key card. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery with no joy. It's weird that the card still does the central locking, and the radio works without me having to put in a code...

What was original reason for changing the battery

It went flat through lots of short trips and wouldn't hold a charge - had to get jump started the other day, and tried charging the battery again but the voltage was dropping. I'd had the car for a couple of years and not changed it, so figured that was the best option

Electronic Handbrake on this?
Is that still displaying ok

yes, electronic handbrake is displaying ok. I did put a smaller battery on than I took off, but that was based on the recommendations that came up when I entered the reg online. It's a 2.0 litre diesel GT - the battery that was on was 80aH, 720A but I replaced with 70aH 640A.

will get wiring diagram up after I have had my tea, and will have a look

appreciate the input! I've put the old battery on to charge overnight just to rule that out

Cannot find anything at all on wiring diagrams Chris Regards key
On the battery, positive connection follow the positive lead down,to a small connector just check this is ok as this is a feed to the UCH

Had the RAC round today and they suggest a dodgy key. I've ordered a replacement that a local auto locksmith can code when he arrives. Do you know if there is a way to release the handbrake in the meantime so I can roll the car forward? There doesn't seem to be a release under the centre console or in the boot by the spare wheel well.
