Re: 2009 Megane Coupé

well managed a 160 mile round trip over Friday and Saturday. Stuck £30 of Super Unleaded in and managed an admirable 37.8 mpg. On the first leg actually hit 40mpg! The return trip was never going to make that due to the temperature on the way back (went as low as 4 degrees so was a tad nippy) Was actually nice to get out and about :d

Re: 2009 Megane Coupé

I literally have not done anything with the car thats worthy of an update lol

Car is filthy having not had a wash since before December 2015 but im pretty sure its a lot worse than it looks as the grey hides so much of the dirt lol

Tyres still havent been changed yet but there still above legal limits, I think these will be getting changed now just before I go on holiday towards the end of August. Currently giving thought to getting cheapest tyres i can find or spending £50 a corner on a mid-range tyre. Again funds are always the cause of my decision making lol

Cars has been brilliant in getting me to and from work since begining of April now that I have been back from having my operation about 2 months now. Definately need to show it some TLC though as inside of the car is as filthy as the outside of it at the moment.

Cant wait for my holiday in August as I love driving in France as there toll motorways are absolulty super smooth. Trip will be the same as a couple of years ago which in total will be roughly be around 900 miles in total. Last time I got some pretty good MPG, although im hoping France has sorted out the protestors at the oil refinaries before then as i dont want to be play hunt the petrol station on the return leg when I have a ferry to catch :grin2:

Who knows i might even get the car cleaned today or tommorow :grin2:

Re: 2009 Megane Coupé

Well managed to get 4 part worn Michelin Energy tyres and the spare repaired for £110 on Tuesday which was fantastic and the best news of all that it sailed through the MOT again which is brilliant!!

Now to start planning the road trip to the southwest of France for my holiday at the end of August :d

Re: 2009 Megane Coupé

Woooo hooo! Less than a week to go before my two week holiday into France :d

Really looking forward to this trip as yet again the last year has been pretty crappy for me and partner and will be a nice break to get away :d

Route will be down from London to Newhaven for midnight and then hitting Dieppe at 4am in the morning then a nice smooth drive down the French Toll motorways to our destination on the west coast :d round trip will be about 1000 mile mark.

https://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/57b0292fd7b4c/Screenshot_2016-08-14-09-10-55.png?

Also had a bit of an issue with the part worn tyres i bought..... For some. Wierd reason there was a 'rotational noise' we heard while going down the motorway recently, not loud but noticable at about 60/70mph. But i was getting wierd vibrations through the drivers side floor at this speed and low speeds of around 20mph as well. I thought maybe balancing/tracking but there was no vibrations through the steering wheel at all, at any speed and while driving the car it tracks true and straight.

Swapped the tyres front to back and hey presto everything is back to normal which im confused about lol

One thing i did notice is that one of the front tyres i moved to the back had about 8 5gram weights on it. (i think they were 5gram weights either way there were 8 of them lol) do we think one of the tyres is/was out of shape causing the wierd rotational noise? Especially the vibrations through the floor?

As i said now i have swapped them back to front everything has returned to normal lol

Re: 2009 Megane Coupé

Blimey forgot i hadnt updated this after my holiday! whooopps :surprise:

Right well got back from the trip to France and we had driven in total 1067 miles in the two weeks holiday. On the way down to Saint Giles we racked up 511 miles getting down stopping to top up the petrol before we got on the ferry and managed a not so shabby 38.4mpg on arrival. Had a lovely time down there with what i class as my family and had a fantastic 2 weeks exploring areas around the place that i hadnt ever visited in the 10 plus years i had been going out there :grin2:

On the way back with the car fully ladened with beers and luggage the car managed an impressive 490 miles and 42.3mpg on one tank of fuel by the time we hit Littlehampton :surprise: on the Toll motorways the range of the car was showing 525 miles. I always felt this was a bit ambitous of the car (by the time we had hit 490 miles the fuel gauge was showing the empty block which is approx 20 miles left till empty. Absolutly chuffed to bits with the car (It didnt put one foot wrong at all) as the temperatures out on the west coast of France were hitting 33-35 degrees every day over the two weeks and where we was staying was extremely dusty what with being on dirt roads and being 25 metres from the beach lol by the time we got back into Dieppe to catch the ferry it was peeing down with rain.......

Car at the end of the holiday was covered in beach/dirt dust and the front was completley fly splattered lol ill see if i can dig out a picture but i think i have only got shots of the rear of the car.

Overall had a really good time and the car performed brilliantly :grin2: and makes the £99 spent on Euro Cover from the AA a bit redundant but i know if i didnt have something astronomical would have gone wrong lol

Re: 2009 Megane Coupé

Well had to happen eventually after 13 years since my last crash...hmmm 13? unlucky for some? lol.............Car got crashed into last night on the way home from work :(

The crash was definitely NOT my fault lol You couldn't get a more open and closed case on this crash! Still once insurance stuff is sorted out ill post Pics and explain, annoying but at least no one was badly injured.

Looking at the car it would seem it needs new undertray, front bumper, number plate, radiator, and im guessing a new head light as although the headlight is fine one of the brackets has snapped just before one of the bolts where the bumper was forced upwards. Amazingly the bonnet is absolutley fine. I'm assuming, looking at it you cant fix it and need a whole new headlight unit.

Im assuming that the car wont be written off as im sure what it needs only comes to about £600 and with the labour on top i would hope it doesn't exceed £1000. I think the car is worth about £2,500 - £3,000 these days but if im honest i am totally unsure.

Anyways, cross fingers its not written off as that really would cause me a lot of issues as i really don't have the money to go and get another car.......

Blimey hadn't realised i have not updated this in so long

Well regarding the accident that happened in April last year..........General crux of it is that on opposite side of the road I was travelling on bus had stopped at its designated bus stop and a car behind it was overtaking it. I have a bus lane to my left, so not a problem ill move over into it a bit and we can all get pass happily and im well within speed limit of the road.

From out of no where a motorbike decides to overtake the car.... that is already overtaking the bus on my side of the road at a fair amount of speed (First i know of this is the huge roar of a bike engine) As I am already half way in the bus lane, slam the brakes on and aim for the rest of bus lane on my side praying i don't go up the pavement as there are big steel bollards) ........there is no where for the bike to go as the car he is over taking is almost level with the front of the bus and my car. He slams on brakes, comes off bike, bike slams into front of my car and although at first i thought he had gone under the front of my car and tyre i think he bounced off the front bumper as he was immediatley on his feet apologising for what happened.

Basically he was fine and was wearing leathers so he was extremley lucky. His bike had wedged its self under the car managed to reverse the car off it but it had caused a fair amount of damage underneath the car. Car was still drive-able but his bike wasnt. Actually felt sorry for the guy as he was a nice enough chap and couldn't apologise enough for his driving and causing the accident. Turns out he only lived a mile from me so I very nicely gave him a lift to his house as his bike was pretty much a write-off (see pics below)

From memory I needed a number plate, front bumper, AC Condenser, New radiator, Fog lights (I think) and New headlight as the bracket on passenger side for it had snapped but amazingly bonnet was fine! lol

Total cost was over £2,700 and i was amazed that the car wasnt written off. When i spoke to the workshop it went to they were amazed as well saying the assessor was having a good day it would seem lol

Insurance bits and pieces were only finalised last month as his insurers weren't replying to mine. One solicitor letter later instructed by the insurance company and everything was paid up lol

The plus side of the accident is that i didn't have to pay to get the AC re-gassed as it was on my list of things to do before the accident :grin2:

Apart from that not much has happened with the car........Got my MOT due at the end of this month which i am hoping that the car will pass and I have actually managed to pick myself up a brand new set of Uniroyal Rainsport 3 for car and got them all put on for the total sum of £260 which i didn't think was too bad (got all 4 tyres over the course of a few months, then took them down to my local tyre place to put on). (While im thinking about it one of the used tyres that i had put on a couple of years ago was showing a date of 2009!!! If im honest i hadnt even realised it was that old....)

Plus towards the end of July I have my epic holiday down to the South East of France which i missed out on last year which is approx 800 - 900 mile round trip. Car is also coming up to the 50,000 mile mark and is just a shade under 200 miles to go to reach it.

Issue to tackle this year are cam belt and water pump being changed as I have been chancing it the last few years and if i dont get it done soon i can see the cam belt roulette number coming up and the engine going kaput lol. Also a service needs to be done.

Think i have covered everything in this very long post lol :grin2: :grin2:

Re: 2009 Megane Coupé

Wooohoooo car passed its MOT!!!

I did ask about cambelt and waterpump being changed and the garage quoted nearly £800.....

Couple of years ago it was only £500 odd does anyone think £800 is over priced or about right? Garage is quoting about 7 hrs labour.

£800!?!?!?!?

A Renault specialist near me who I used for my scenic charged me £360 inc vat for cambelt/water pump. On their site they charge £ 360 for a 1.6 Megane plus an extra £176 for the dephaser pulley so nowhere near £800.

Mind you when I got mine done on the scenic two year ago the bill ended up being closer to £1000 as it had a major service and all discs/pads needed done. I got discs/pads cheaper elsewhere but due to electric handbrake they***8217;re not cheap!

Good news about mot ***x1f642;
