CAR - Scenic mk1 2002 1.9 diesel dci expression (Not the one in my signature)

-ABS light comes on intermittently (Seems after I have reset it with my autel ap200 it clears and when
taken for a run its fine
but dash light comes on when stopped again)
Codes:
9D - Rear right hand side wheel speed sensor signal

7D - Rear right hand side wheel speed sensor circuit

Any ideas ? I will pull the wheel off tomorrow but what am i looking for ?
Is this a mot failure ? have mot tomorrow !!!!!
Brakes are fine when using them !

Yes it is a fail. The brakes will be fine in normal use but the ABS might not kick in, and unfortunately, if you have it, it has to be nominal to pass the MoT.
We had it once. All you can do is try to clean up the plug and contacts. We were lucky.

Ok thanks.

  • I checked fuse to be ok
  • cleaned with contacts of connector plug
but have yet to remove sensor and clean that.

I am.now down to only
7D - Rear right hand side wheel speed sensor circuit

Q) what does nominal on a mot mean ?

is the process :

-overall check of brake system on offending wheel.
- check abs fuse
-test abs sensor
-replace abs sensor
-replace abs computer module

q) is there benefit to remove sensor and clean ?
I can get a new one of these from 11-50£

q) I have found a place that with the Renault part number of abs computer module can mend it.
- I need the part number.

q) I have another car the same sat on drive and abs is fine ? can I use parts from that ?

Ok I'll have to become the expert in this then :

issue is rh rear wheel abs error . d7. can be cleared but returns when pull away (doesn't if go reverse)

check 1:
remove rear wheel. and remove and clean up the sensor which is held by a hex bolt and a elec connector.

check 2:
will inform when I have found it.

OK !
update. It is not intermittent now (possibly ever ) and stays on after clearing now. So there is a change slightly to becoming worse... if that helps analysis.

Q) Could I try the sensor from my now "mothballed scenic " on this one.
Using the sensor off the same wheel (if that matters ) ?

check 2:
Try a new sensor

Thoughts :
I have options of a abs sensor from ebay or eurocarparts.
ebay - 18£
euro cp - 105£

any thoughts?
Or should I absolutely pull the one off my old scenic for a test first to be sure its faulty?

Update:
I seem to be doing things backwards but thought I'd check how to get off sensor and clean and test. (pre the new one arriving)

It snapped off !!!! trying to pry it off with screwdriver.
So beware if trying to pry off the sensor after taking out single torx bolt it could snap.

I simply took off wheel hub and a few taps of a hammer pushed the magnetic sensor end through. (tis just a plastic holder snug in the hole). a small clamp might have done it bit to get hub off is a few mins at most .

Cleaned hole with wire brush ready for new cable.
cleaned the notched wheel that gives the magnetic field .... blurb to sensor.
tied off old cable to soming else.

await sensor.....
car drive able but no abs . I used to drive a Ford escort mk2 so am very happy with that.

Point to note:
I dont think it makes any difference but I have different size tyres on front and back.
185*55 on back and 185*65 on front. (a left over from this mega cheap car).

I wander if that could cause an abs sensor error?
(I am convinced not as on my other scenic I have had same with different tyres and never a sensor error)

Will answer your own answer that you started with
RIGHT HAND wheel sensor
IF tyres were at fault, you would have had a left hand wheel sensor fault also
