Dear ,

I have Grand Espace IV 2004, 2.2DCI, everything is working fine except sometimes aircondition smell is bad. i.e. dirty.

I have changed Cabine Filter in Front, but still the problem remains, I did send to Renault Service, but smell is not all the time, it comes time to time.

Does Espace IV has maybe another Polen Filter or not.

I would be very very grad full if I get any response or any clue about the problem that I have into my car
What should I do please

Hello,

cabin filter / pollen filter are both the same thing and as far as I am aware there is only one filter. The smell is most likely due to moisture in the aircon ducting that has sat there growing bacteria and that is causing the unpleasent smell. What you should do is buy an air conditioning cleaner and freshener. There are quite a few on the market and available from all good car factors. You are looking at about £10.00 a can. Follow the instructions on the can. Also you should be running the aircon on low all the time and give it a 10 minute blast once a week on cold and then 10 minutes on hot to dry out the air con ducting.

I totally agree with you that there is one filter for polen and cabine.

Could you please tell me or give me an example what is that "can" that I should do for my AC to remove those bacterias , can you give me some links please...

Since my English is not so good could you please explain to me how to do that:

AC all the time low, ???!!!then 10 minutes COLD and 10 minutes HOT right.

Hi, buy ya haynes manual, i love mine for my megane hatch, saved me a few pounds over the years, you can pick them up from nearly all car shops and there are loads on ebay :d

also advise to run the aircon at least once per month regardless of the weather....!!

this helps keep the bearings etc in the system lubricated !!!

Dear friends,

I just bought the can brand name. on instructions says:

Application

• Switch off air conditioning and ventilation system.
• Insert spraying probe into the air conditioning drain
• Spray about half of the can's contents (approx. 30 sec.).
• Loosened contamination is drained without problem through the condensation water drain.
• Allow to react at least 10 minutes before restarting the air conditioning system again.

I dont really understand where to spray????

If the air conditioning smells like foot odour, I'd take it to an air conditioner specialist to fumigate the mold build-ups.
This is recommended once every five years or so, depending on how fast the mold deposits build up, based on climate where the car is being used, etc.

The air-condition drain is under the car and may be difficult to reach or identify.

The other way of accessing is to remove the pollen filter - switch-on the air con and heater blower full blast. Spray the deodorant anti-bac into the heater inlet on about 10 second bursts. Do this a couple of times - switch off evreything - stop the engine and let it sit for about 30 minutes - overnight is best. This give time for the anti-bac to kill any growth or spores. This method allows the anti-bac to get drawn over the evaporator and deep into its cooling fins. Once complete run the car with the air-con going for about 10 minutes with all doors open allowing any anti-bac residue to disperse.
Whilst you're at check the pollen filter is in good nick - if in doubt replace it. Don't be tempted to clean it as it is impossible to remove the dirt or pollen trapped inside as the inner filter layers of the filter are electrostatic.

Instructions are as follows,

1. put air con on low
2. switch to the recirculate function
3. activate can to spray into interior and close door for 10-15 minutes to allow the cleaner to work
4. open door after can has been dispersed and had time to work
5. breath deeply, your car now smells of apples. :d
